A Federal Products Gage Block Comparator: Model #130B-38 (0 - 4.000") is used in the calibration of gage blocks at Northeast Metrology. The accuracy of the comparator is to one-millionth (0.000001) of an inch. Certifications are produced on an IBM compatible computer system, which is interfaced with the digital readout to the comparator. This interfacing allows for positive, error free measurements. Before actual calibration, all gage blocks are cleaned, checked for deformities, and deburred if necessary. Like all standards, a heat sink of the blocks for 24 to 48 hours before calibration is a necessity for accurate measurement. Blocks are then calibrated, issued a certification and a sticker, treated with a preservative, and then packaged. All of the above is in accordance with GGG-G-15 (Latest Revision.) The final certification will have serial numbers as applicable for the individual blocks and deviations expressed in millionths of an inch. Normal turnaround time for gage blocks is 3 to 5 days after receipt.
